Pescina as well as being a village rich in history and traditions, is also an excellent place to practice sports and movement. The town is an excellent starting point for excursions along the Valle del Giovenco territory starting right from Pescina itself.

Pescina, as mentioned elsewhere, is a town rich in art and history, where in addition to visiting its interesting museums dedicated to Cardinal Mazarin and Ignazio Silone, it is possible and right to admire its beautiful historic center, made up of narrow streets and alleys in a continuous and get off as expected from a village of medieval origin.

There are scenarios within this historic center that have nothing to envy to other towns with the same origin.

If you want, one of the possible cultural itineraries that can be done is the path of the churches, starting from the basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie and slowly going up the village observing its historic center, to first access the church of S. Antonio da Padova, then get to the top of the remains of the church of San Berardo awaiting renovation.

Among other things, here is the tomb of Ignazio Silone, finally going back down through the oldest part of the town you arrive at the church of the Madonna del Carmine, a Marian sanctuary from the early 1900s.

However, the most important structure on a cultural and medieval level remains for me its characteristic castle at the top of the village. This is from medieval times and has recently been restored in a perfect way, being able to access it easily via a large flight of stairs.

The manor of Pescina was for a long time a fortified structure to defend and  control the passage from Valle del Giovenco to and from Fucino. Climbing to the top of the castle it is possible to admire one of the most beautiful views of the Fucino and the Valle del Giovenco and I would not be surprised if today this medieval structure was also used as a film set as this is truly fascinating.

In addition to its history and culture, Pescina is immersed in uncontaminated nature, where enjoying it is almost an obligation, it is so beautiful and varied. To do this, just take the various paths that start from Pescina and head towards the Valle del Giovenco, towards the nearby area of the Velino-Sirente Regional Park, towards the Piana del Fucino or simply decide to go up its small mound to arrive in top of the Alpino monument from where you can admire a fabulous panorama. These excursions can be practiced both by trekking and by bicycle.

Furthermore, in Pescina it is also possible to practice sport fishing. In fact, Pescina is crossed by the Giovenco river and near the entrance of this in the town, there is a small artificial lake, where it is possible to practice sport fishing, where competitions and events are often organised.

Manifestazione culturale del Premio Internazionale Ignazio Silone.

Returning to the cultural plan, you can participate in various events starting with the Ignazio Silone award, which is held every year and attracts many people. This is a cultural event, which is organized every year by the municipality of Pescina at the municipal theater of San Francesco, which, starting from the figure of the great writer and politician Ignazio Silone, reviews current events and the history of Italy and the Marsica. Also at the San Francesco theater it is also possible to attend the numerous theatrical performances that take place here throughout the year.

And after so much sport and culture, it is impossible not to stop in some club or restaurant in this village, where it is possible to delight in the magnificent and hearty local cuisine, which will satisfy even the most demanding palates.

So what are you waiting for come to Pescina!!!
