Visiting Pescasseroli means getting in touch with a very ancient reality, which expresses history almost from stones.
Certainly of the ancient Roman – Italic village there is pratically nothing left, but the town is however very ancient going back to the Late Middle Ages. Pescasseroli has a historical center dating back to the Middle Ages, which despite having changed over time, has maintained its anciente structure.
From this it follows that one cannot come to Pescasseroli, without taking a tour of the ancient village. The country is very rich in history and this can be perceived from the various monuments present, but above all from the conformation of the historical center formed by narrow streets and squares more or less large, which blend well with each other. Certainly the town has profoundly changed from the Middle Ages to the present, but has nevertheless maintained its charm.
Among the monuments that most characterize it we find the Romanesque church of San Pietro e Paolo dating back to the 9th century, which contains the precious Black Madonna of the Crowned venerated throughout Abruzzo.

Other noterworthy churches are the 12th century sanctuary of Santa Maria di Monte Tranquillo, the 18th-century Madonna of Carmine Church, the 17th-century of Santa Lucia, and the former Church of Santa Maria of the Angels.

Not far from the town you can admire the remains of the ancient Castel Mancino, a medieval castle from the 9th century and located just outside Pescasseroli at an altitude of 1300 m.
In Pescasseroli there is also Sipari Palace, an ancient noble palace, belonging to the important Sipari family, who led the country politically between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Today the palace is home to the Sipary Palace House Museum.
Beyond Palazzo Sipari, certainly the most important, we find several other elegant palaces, which are mostly nineteenth-century and have managed to maintain their charm. These can be admired walking through the streets of the ancient village.
For all those who want to admire the village in an important moment, they can come in the Easter period, more precisely on the Sunday of Corpus Domini, when there is a procession through the streets of the old town for the S.S. Sacramento, and beyond that we admire the floral display, created precisely for this event, which winds through the streets of the ancient village.

This event is prepared many months before by the community of Pescasseroli. Children, young people, adults, the elderly of Pescasseroli are committed together to prepare this great festival in honor of the Body of Christ.
On the night of Holy Saturday the streets of the town are covered by a colorful carpet of flowers, made with great care and in the various districts they are structured altars, which depict scenes linked to the faith, which are related to a theme, which from year to year molting.
The work and the great commitment of the people are put to work for the solemn procession of the S.S. Sacramento, which in the late morning starting from the parish church of Saints Peter and Paul winds through the streets of the village. These streets are embellished with a carpet of flowers, altars, but also embroidered fabrics, which hang from the windows of private homes. The floral display for Corpus Domini is an event now fully entered among the most important annual events of Pescasseroli.

Another important monument of the village is the Fontana degli Orsi, also called the fountain of San Rocco, which is located outside the town, and to reach it you need a specific walk.
After this quick overview of the monuments and events of Pescasseroli, we add that this town is the ideal starting point for any excursion to discover the nearby villages, very beautiful and characteristic, but also for those who love walking in nature.
In my opinion the best way to feel more involved in nature, so having a sensory experience with this, is about horse riding, which in my opinion release more beneficial effects than just walking, but this is a purely personal note.
